POHOIKI BOAT RAMP SHOWS NO DAMAGE
Pohoiki Boat Ramp in Puna has been surrounded by roughly 1 4,000 cubic yards of black sand due to the eruption in Kīluaea's Lower East Rift Zone. However, the boat ramp itself sbows no damage. According to Finn McCall, an engineer witb Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Boating and Oeean Recreation, "We have a lot more analysis to do, but it appears, based on our initial assessment, that we could actually remove the black sand and re-create the entrance to the boat ramp." - Photo: Courtesy DLNR
