Lecture to describe Rapa Nui discoveries

Dr. Jut Wynne will discuss new discoveries from the cave ecosystems of Rapa Nui (Easter Island) at a lecture WK, iim this month at

the Bishop Museum. Wynne and colleagues have studied the caves since 2008, and recently announced the

discovery of several endemic invertebrates, species new to science and restricted to a

specific geographic area. The program, "Discoveries FromRapa Nui: New Species andNovel Ideas," will discuss the implications of the discoveries and how they may improve our understanding of the natural world and planetary cave exploration. Wynne, an assistant research professor with Northern Arizona University's Department of Biological Sciences, has led over 50 expeditions in the American Southwest, Polynesia and Latin America and participated in over 100 research trips around the world. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m., Aug. 20 at Bishop Museum.
