BURIAL NOTICE - KUALOA NOTICE TO INTERESTED PARTIES IS HEREBY GTVEN that a single human bone fragment, designated as State Inventory of Historic Properties (SIHP) # 50-80-09-7397, was identified by Cultural Surveys Hawai'i, Ine. during the course of an archaeological inventory survey related to a Reconstructed Wastewater Systems and Bathhouse Replacement Project at Kualoa Regional Park, Kualoa Ahupua'a, Ko'olaupoko District, O'ahu TMK: [1] 4-9-004: 001 (por.). Following the procedures of Hawai'i Revised Statutes (HRS) Chapter 6E43, and Hawai'i Administrative Rules (HAR) Chapter 13-300, the bone is believed to be over 50 years old. An evaluation of ethnicity has been made by the State Historic Preservation Division (SHPD) and the bone is believed most likely to be Native Hawaiian. Backgroundresearch indicates that during the Māhele Kamehameha III (Kauikeaouli) claimed the entire Kualoa Ahupua'a (Kualoa 1 and

Kualoa 2) including the immediate vicinity of the bone find. Kuleana (maka'āinana Land Commission Awards) in the vicinity include LCA 3011 awarded to Mahiole, LCA 3043 to Kapi'ioho (Kapi'ipo), LCA 3046 to Kamanu and LCA 3052 to Kaneakalau. FAX (808) 768-4000]. Proposed treatment is relocation to an existing designated re-interment area within Kualoa Regional Park. The O'ahu Island Burial Council (OIBC) has jurisdiction in this matter and the proper disposition and treatment of this bone will be determined by the OIBC, in consultation with any recognized lineal and/or cultural descendants, per the requirements of HARChapter 13-300-33. Appropriate treatment shall occur in accordance with HAR Chapter 13-300-38.
