The 2014 Young Native Writers Essay Contest is accepting submissions fromNative Hawaiian, Ameiiean Indian and Alaska Native high school students through Apiil 22. This year's essay topic focuses on the cultural images, symbols or art forms historically utilized by one's native community to communicate a message or value or serve a specific purpose. In writing their l,200-word-max-imum essay, students should draw from both personal knowledge and research from various sources. Five first-place winners willreceive an expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., as part of Scholar Week, July 20-24, 2014, and a $2,500 scholarship paid directly to the college or
