Why Now? Hawaiians benefit from rights, programs, and institutions such as Kamehameha Schools, Hawaiian Home Lands, and the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. These programs and institutions eonhnue to be
threatened by constitutional challenges from those who believe that these are based on race, and not our rights as native people of Hawai'i. Following the publication of the roll, a convention may occur during whieh time those on the Kana'iolowalu Roll will be given the kuleana to participate in decision making processes that will determine critical steps moving forward; from the principles of the national governing document, to who will have voting privileges in and receive potential benefits from the Hawaiian nation.
