HARA 2012 LIFETIME AGHIEVEMENT AWARDS

On May 5 musical greats, pals and fans packed the Ala Moana Hotel ballroom as 1 1 honorees were presented Nā Hōkū Hanohano Lifetime Achievement Awards at an annual event presented by the Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts and OHA. Clockwise from top left are awardees: Nalani 01ds, the Lim Family, (Lorna Lim, left, Ehner "Sonny" Lim Ir., Mary Ann Lim and Nani Lim Yap), comedian Frank De Lima, Hawaiianradio disc jockey pioneer Kimo Kahoano (with 01ds), and The Ali'is (Rudy Aquino, left, Benny Chong, Danny Couch, Manny Lagodlagod, L.D. Cabral, Carlos Barboza and Bobby King). When The Ali'is took the stage, they hadn't played together for 25 years - and there was no time for rehearsal. On the choms of "I'll Remember You," there were few dry eyes in the room. Other honorees feted during the celebration were: entertainment columnist Wayne Harada, singer Moe Keale, recording artist Pua Ahneida, "Songbird of Maui" Ahee Iohnson, recording artist Ihilani Miller, and j azz pianist B etty Lou Taylor. H AR A also gave an Industry Award to the Royal Hawaiian Band. Kaho'ano, who gave the day's winning acceptance speech, gathered the stars for a hnale of "Hawai'i Aloha." Photos, kisses and lei giving went on for so long, the hotel staff had to flicker the lights. Kaho'ano said on the way out the door, "Hawaiians!
