Open market marks first anniversary

The Prince Kūhiō Community Center will celebrate the first anniversary of its open market on Nov. 12, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., next to the state Department of Hawaiian Home Lands and Kanehili homestead. Special events include a pokemaking and watermelon-eating contests, Hawaiian storytelling, live entertainment, poi pounding and other cultural demonstrations, and food booths. Storytellers include Shad Kane, Kumu Kalani Apana and Kumu Uluwehi Kalilikane. To apply for the poke contest, visit hawaiimaoli.org.
