Waimea Valley to host Kalo Workshop

The 201 1 Kalo Workshop will bring togetherkalo connoisseurs, loeal farmers and coinmunity members to share knowledge and learn about the traditional uses of kalo, or taro. The free workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 at the Pīkake Pavilion at Waimea Valley, 59-864 Kamehameha Highway, across from Waimea Bay. Speakers include Weston Yap, who will discuss protecting biodiversity and the eonneehon between food and the Internet, and Anthony Deluze, a cultural practitioner. The fifth annual workshop also features an excursion and species identification with Jerry Konanui and Penny Levin, as well as break-out sessions, a pounding demonstration and tasting. Light refreshments will be available. Participants may bring luneh or buy luneh at Nā Mea Ono.
