Entry program into UH medicol school accepting applications

Aspiring physicians hoping to study at the University of Hawai'i John A. Burns School of Medicine and work in underserved populations in Hawai'i and the Paeihe have until Nov. 30 to apply for the 2010-201 1 Imi Ho'ola Post-Baccalaureate Program, whieh prepares disadvantaged students for a career in medicine. The Imi Ho 'ola program supports diversity in the phy sician workforce and aims to improve health care in Hawai'i and the Paeihe Basin by increasing the number of physicians through a 12-month educational program that addresses students' aeademic and social-emotional needs. Eaeh year up to 10 students from economically, socially and/or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds are selected to participate. Applicants have diverse backgrounds and are motivated to overcome challenges that have prevented them from achieving their academic potential. Although Imi Ho'ola is not limited to people of Hawaiian, Filipino, Samoan, Chamorro and Micronesian descent, a large number of these students have demonstrated that they are from a disadvantaged background.
