Summit to tackle health disparities
Native Hawaiian heahh professionals and advocates are encouraged to register for the first Hawai'i Heahh Equity Surmnit, Sept. 11-12 at the Hawai'i Convention Center on O'ahu. The event will explore heahh disparities anrong racial and ethnic populations, whieh include a disproportionately high rate of chronic disease in Native Hawaiians and other indigenous populations. The goal of the conferenee is to present current data on heahh inequities in Hawai'i and the Pacific, and to discuss strategies that ean help the state achieve greater heahh equity. Heahh equity eoncerns the systenric, avoidable differences in population heahh that are traced to social and eeonomie eonditions. The conference is sponsored by the state Departnrent of Heahh and the Hawai'i Public Heahh Association. Registration for the twoday event is $30. The summit will also provide training for eommunity organization and advocacy to pronrote heahh equity. The results of the sunurrit will be incorporated in a State Heahh Equity Plan being
