Seeking Island Burial Council volunteer candidates Tlie Oflice of Hawallan Affairs is seeking applicants for tlie island burlal councils who are interested in having tlieir name submitted to the Office of tlie Governor for possible appoinhnent to tliis important positlon to help in the care, management and protectlon of unmarked ancestral Native Hawailan burial sites tlirougliout tlie islands. If you are an interested member of tlie Hawallan communlty and ean represent one of the following regions: • Kohala, Kona, Ka'u, Pima, Hilo, and Hamakua for tlie island of Hawal'i; • Laliaina, Wailuku, Makawao, and Hana for tlie island of Maui; • Lana'i; • West Moloka'i, Central Moloka'i, East Moloka'i and Kalawao for tlie island of Moloka'i; • Wai'anae, 'Ewa, Kona, Ko'olaupoko, Ko'olauloa and Waialua for tlie island of O'aliu; • Waimea, Koloa, Liliu'e, Kawailiau, Hanalei and Nā Pali for tlie island of Kaua'l; and (G) Nl'iliau Applicants must possess an understanding of Hawailan culture, history, customs, practices, and in particular, beliefs and practices relating to tlie care and protection of Native Hawaiian burial sites and ancestral remains and burial goods; and are not simultaneously serving on another state board or commission.
