Brandy Nālani McDougall is a poet of Native Hawaiian, Chinese and Scottish descent, born and raised in Upcountry Maui. She received her master of fine arts in poetry from the University of Oregon in 2001 and a bachelor of arts in English from Whittier College in 1998.
She is the 2002 recipient of Hawai 'i PaeiUe University's James Vaughan Award for Poetry and has published her work in literary journals and anthologies throughout the U.S. and Aotearoa. In 2002,
she completed a Fulbright Award to Aotearoa, where she studied Pacific literature and conducted interviews on creative development with other indigenous Pacific writers. Her first collection of poetry, "Origins," is near completion. In coUaboration wilh 'Ōiwi: A Native Hawaiian Journal, Ka Wai Ola regularly showcases works by Kanaka Maoli writers.
