Folk arts

This fall, the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts Folk Arts Program will showcase puhlie performances and demonstrations of traditional Hawaiian arts on the grounds of 'Iolani Palaee. On Oct. 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the 01d Archives Building, Wendy Hee will present on lauhala weaving and Moana will demonstrate tapa making. At 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the Basement Galleries, storyteller Makia Malo of Kalaupapa will recount Hawaiian legends and folklore. At 1 p.m. at the 01d Archives Building, Paulette Kahalepuna and Ka'ili Chun will give presentations on feather work and eanoe tying, respectively.

On Nov. 15, John Lake, Manu Boyd, Kalena Silva and Anthony Lenehanko will give a presentation on traditional Hawaiian chants and the art of oli at the 01d Archives Lecture Room All events are free for the puhlie. For information, eall 586-0300.
