Arts grant awarded

The Keōmailani Hanapi' Foundation has been awarded a Pū'ā Foundation grant to fund ihe participation of 40 master cultural practitioners and artists in annual cultural festivals in Hawai'i parks. "We're excited and grateful," said KHF President Hiko'ula Hanap'i. "Community support and eompensation for master artists is so impor~ tant to acknowledge the value of

their knowledge as caretakers of native culture and arts." The $3,000 Pū'ā Foundation grant will underwrite honorariums for artists' demonstrations at culture and arts festivals at ihe Pu'uhonua o Hōnaunau, Puhkoholā and Hawai'i Volcanoes national parks. The 0'ahu~based Pū'ā Foundation supports projects that empowers grassroots Native Hawaiian organizations and nurtures the Native Hawaiian eommunity. The Keōmailani Hanap'i Foundation wilh its growing membemhip of Hawaiian artists, teach~ ers, and over 20 partner Hawaiian organizations is committed to pre~ serving and advancing Native Hawaiian culture and arts.
