Palaee protection
Thanks to loeal termite eompanies, a Sentricon® Termite Colony Elimination System has been installed at the Queen Emma Summer Palaee in Nu'uanu. Unlike traditional treatments that require drilling holes in floors and foundations, and hundreds of gallons of chemicals, the method applied at Hānaiakamalama is mueh less intrusive, according to Roman Dycus of Dow AgroSciences whieh produced Sentricon®. The original structure was built in 1847 and eventually was purchased by John Young II, Queen Emma's unele, from whom she eventually inherited the property. Since 1915, the home has been maintained by the Daughters of Hawai'i as a museum. Hānaiakamalama ia an irreplaceable remnant of the kingdom whieh must be preserved. Although there is no current evidence of termites, the newly installed treatment will protect the royal residentce for years to eome. ■
