Nat'l education vote
At the National Indian Education Association's national convention held Oct. 17 - 21 in Oklahoma City, the
membership voted to give Hawaiians status as regular voting members, reported Dr. David Kekaulike Sing, director of Nā Pua No'eau. For 30 years, Hawaiians were only afforded membership as associates, with no vote, and American Indians and Alaska Natives could vote on important measures affecting education. The National Indian Education Association holds an annual convention where native educators from throughout the country ean discuss issues, strategies and activities to improve the education for native students.
