Ceremony workshops
Welina ke aloha iā kākou e ko Hawai'i, mai ka lā hiki akalā kau. Hawai'i is host to the 5th World Indigenous People's Conference on Education (WIPCE), Aug. 1 - 7 in Hilo. Some 5,000 indigenous people from around the world are expected to attend. In order to properly greet our guests in a traditional manner, an opening ceremony is scheduled for Aug. 1 at Hilo One (known also as Hilo bay front). According to Kekuhi Kana-hele-Frias of the opening ceremonies committee, all are weleome to participate. Participants will take part in oli (chant) and hula, en masse. Pre-ceremony workshops are necessary, and are free and open to all. Registration to attend the conference is still being accepted.
