Sewer hook-up
Responding to the Feb. 1 Honolulu Advertiser article, "Homesteaders offered help with sewer costs," the only help Nānākuli and Wai'anae homesteaders need is to eliminate the
infiltrators, the city and County of Honolulu, from the trust lands. The county has no jurisdiction on Hawaiian Home Lands and neither does the state, I dare say. The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands thinks the use of federal funds for the sewer system will coerce and intimidate the homesteaders to tie into the sewer system. It will not. We had an identical situation on the Waimānalo reservation where the city and county claimed ownership of the entire sewer system on April 12, 1987. It seems the county is suffering
from a severe case of amnesia. Twelve years ago, it conceded it did not own the sewer hne. What is the county doing on trust lands in Nānākuli and Wai'anae?
