Outstanding Educator nominations due Sep. 30

Ke Kukui Mālamalama, OHA's annual recognition of outstanding individuals or groups in Hawaiian education, is accepting nominations for the 1997 Ke Kukui Mālamalama awards. The awards honor exemplary work in academic and cultural education in the Hawaiian community. Nominees may be educators, administrators, Hawaiian education projects or supporters of Hawaiian education. OHA seeks those who have excelled in education leadership, eunieulum development, education innovation, sensitivity to Hawaiians and encouragement of Hawaiians in education. Nominees do not have to be of Hawaiian ancestry. All the nominees will be recognized during an awards reception on Dec. 11. To be eligible, nominees must be exceptionally dedicated to furthering the education of native Hawaiians; must have inspired students of Hawaiian ancestry to excellence; have the respect and admiration of students, parents and colleagues; and have taken an active role in the community. Four top awards are given annually. Deadhne for nominations is Sept. 30. For nomination packets or more information eall the OHA Education Division at 594-1912.
