Free diabetes screening tests

i | Free diabetes screening i tests for 60 participants were | done by LT ilani Perry, Lorna , Dias and Deanne DuPont of the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) who eame to the Honolulu office of OHA April 30, 1997. The goal of the program is to prevent or delay diabetes through diet, exercise and/or medication. The six-year study is being carried out by the University of HawaPi and the Queen's Medical Center, as part of a nationwide study sponsored

by the National Institutes of Health. If you are interested in a free screening test and are at least 25 years old, please eall (808) 537-7155. Through a two-year eontract with The Institute For Family Enrichment (T1FFE), OHA's Health division is eonducting Ho'olauna workshops throughout the state. These workshops focus on increasing Hawaiian culture awareness for government and non-profit service providers to assist them in their interactions with native Hawaiians. The latest workshop, held in Kona, was attended by 46 participants from seven agencies and supported by OHA's Kupuna Alaka'i Betty Jenkins and Kupuna Kākovo Nalehua Knox.
