OHA Update
OHA and Hui Mālama i nā Kūpuna o Hawai'i Nei have completed the first phase of a database project designed to itemize sacred and patrimonial objects held by federally funded institutions throughout the United States. In 1996 OHA and Hui Mālama jointly received a federal grant to create the computerized database. The project was completed in January 1997. The data base currently consists of 4,596 items held by 44 museums. The database contains fields of information includ-
ing the type of object held, the name of the object in both Hawaiian and English, a brief description of the object including measurements where provided, the origin of the object, the name and address of the museum whieh holds the object and the name of the contact person at the museiun. the database eontains 429 pages and is available to the public for review.
