Heads up for housing help

Native Hawaiians and the public are invited to attend a free "HUD Homebuyer School Seminar" Saturday June 7, for an informa-tion-packed day on all aspects of owning a home. The seminar is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Blaisdell Convention Center, 777 Ward Ave. in Honolulu. It is sponsored by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in conjunction with housing organization professionals. Office of Hawaiian Affairs will have an information table at the seminar. "OHA welcomes the opportunity to participate with HUD," said Housing officer Steve Morse. "It will give us an opportunity to inform native Hawaiians about OHA's revolving loan programs that are currently available for homesteaders on DHHL lands." Workshops will offer clear and understandable information to demystify the home buying process.

Information will be targeted to educating first-time home buyers, yoimg adults aged 30-45, low-to-moderate ineome households (annual incomes of $10,000-35,000 and $35,000 to $55,000), military (and former mihtary) personnel, renters and minority consumers, and native Hawaiians ehgible for Hawaiian homelands. Topics include: preparing for home ownership, finding the right home for you, shopping for a loan and closing, how to buy a HUD home (203(k) financing), financing options and special financing, homes via Department of Hawaiian Home Lands. HUD is responsible for increasing America's home ownership rolls by as many a eight mihion new families by the year 2000.
