Of further interest was the finding that current or increased funding for OHA was the majority opinion, regardless of ethnic background, or length of residence in the islands. "These results validate what we've always believed," said OHA Trustee-elect Colette Machado, "that the public is squarely behind our efforts to ensure justice for Hawaiians." Trustee Abe Aiona agrees. "The survey results demonstrate that some legislators are out of touch with the fundamental fairness and support that the people of Hawai'i have for Hawaiians, and for keeping the promises that have been made." The survey, conducted by Mattson Sunderland Research and Planning Associates, was conducted between February 15th and March 4th, 1997. It included 966 telephone interviews, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2%.
