New books detail the lives of Liholiho and Lot

"Kamehameha IV: Alexander Liholiho," and "'O Kamehameha V: Lot Kapuāiwa," are two short but fascinating biographies of Hawaiian ali'i, the newest additions to the excellent series published by Kamehameha Schools Bernice Pauahi Bishop Estate press. Designed to be read by both children and adults, the biographies tell with simple power the stories of the two kines — their upbrineing, the

blessings and burdens of their reign, and their efforts on behalf of the Hawaiian people. The books are well illustrated with photographs, illustrations and maps. Kamehameha IV eame to the throne well schooled and widely traveled. Deeply concerned for the welfare of his people, Alexander Liholiho is best i remembered for his efforts in helping to establish the Queen's Hospital and ' various churches and schools.
