Friends of ʻOhana Ola O Kahumana set concert Oct. 19 to benefit homeless shelter
A benefit concert by the Friends of 'Ohana Ola O Kahumana is planned for Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The concert will feature Israel Kamakawiwoole, the Cazimero Brothers, Brothers and SistersNānākuli, and many others. The Friends of 'Ohana Ola 'O Kahumana is a grassroots organization whose sole purpose is to raise funds for the expansion of its drug-free homeless transitional shelter — in existence for the last five years and serving 88 clients.
Clients are foster children and homeless families. Special programs and classes are provided in anger management, self awareness, parenting , budgeting, community meetings, job training and referrals, referrals for substanceabuse/alcoholism, ho'opono'pono, children's self awareness, attitude, and children's unifica-
tion. Their success rate of 85 percent is among the highest in Hawai'i. This month, activities will begin with the proclamation of Hanai Pono (Nourish that whieh is right) month by both the Governor and Mayor. There will be weekly activities to educate the public about the shelter program. Shelter participants and supporters will "give back" to the community throughcommunity service projects, clean-ups, etc. Friends of Kahumana are searching for corporate sponsorships for advertisements on concert T-shirts.
