Voyaging canoe to be built in Lahaina

Hui O Wa'a Kaulua, headed by Keola Sequeira, has designed and is building a double hulled Hawaiian voyaging eanoe that will be eapable of sailing around the Pacific rim. The eanoe, called the Mo'o Kiha, will be constructed in the Kamehameha Iki Park on Front Street in Lahaina. Sequeira says, "The vision for the park is to create a center of learning about the Hawaiian culture. The park will be a blend of culture and science, inviting both locals and visitors to experience 'hands-on' Hawai'i. We plan to teach the youth of our community about Hawaiian navigation, sailing philosophy and seamanship. Ka'anapali Beach Hotel General Manager Mike White has announced that the hotel will support Hui O Wa'a Kaulua and the construction of Mo'o Kiha.
