Ka Wai Ola - Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Volume 13, Number 2, 1 February 1996 — Iolani Palace should be neutral [ARTICLE]
Iolani Palace should be neutral
Mahalo to the Cayetano administration for opening the gates at the Iolani Palaee by ordering the Friends of Iolani Palaee to share office space with the Hawaiian Sovereignty Elections Council, the statefunded plebiscite whieh, under international law, would weaken Hawaiian self-determina-tion. Of course, in all fairness, "most favored nation" treatment would also be extended to Ka Lāhui. Whieh office will they occupy? And what about Bumpy Kanahele's nation, Lindsay Lindsey's Provisional Government of Hawai'i who are sovereign, Dr. Kekuni Blaisdell's Peoples' Tribunal and the rest of the gang, including Alan Hoe and Walter Ritte whose model of sovereignty is being advertised in the OHA newspaper? Whieh Kame-
hameha VI will sit in the throne room to enhanee the historical presentation of the 1893 overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom with the help of the United States? Whieh floor will OHA trustees occupy?
Or should our mahalo be sent to the Friends' of Iolani Palaee for their wonderful restoration of the onee trashed palaee and for the pride and knowledge they have engendered in all of us? Shouldn't all of us be
demanding that Iolani Palaee and its grounds remain neutral and enjoyed by all. Lela M. Hubbard Honolulu
