State Water Code Joint Public Information Meetings
The State Legislature will be conducting a series of public hearings to obtain testimonv on the necd to improve the existing State Water Codc (Chapter 174c, Hawaii Reviscd Statutes). Discussion and analysis of proposed changes by ihe Review Commission in its final report of December 1 994 by the native Hawaiian community is essential to protect and preserve native Hawaiian water rights. ln order to provide information to the native Hawaiian community. a joint effort is being implemented by the following groups: 1 . Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) 2. Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) 3. Native Hawaiian Advisory Council (NHAC) 4. Native Hawaiian Legal Corporation (NHLC) These four groups announced that public information meetings in a panel format will be held prior to the upcoming legislative public hearings.
