Volunteers needed for Sovereignty Vote Registration Effort
by Debbie Lee Behm Voter Education Coordinator Volunteers are vital for the plebiscite vote to be completed with success. The Council has alread> recruited volunteers statewide, but hundreds more are needed across the state and in the Mainland.
The plebiscite is a nrst step in a Hawaiian process whieh will have an impact on generations to eome. Through the Hawaiian Sovereignty Elections Council (HSEC) Volunteer and Internship Program, anyone interested in getting in on the ground floor of planning for the future of nā Kānaka Maoli and Hawai'i nei ean aet involved and make
difference. Making a difference begins with an orientation about HSEC history, goals, policies and procedures. Trainees will become knowledgeable about the plebiscite process and the events that could follow if Hawaiians vote "yes" to the plebiscite question. Valuable presentation skills will be learned as well.
At the time of training, volunteers will be asked to fill out a Volunteer Profile to choose whieh activities they would like to assist with or whieh : position they would like to fill. Community outreach requires a vast network of : volunteers to assist at special events, work community booths, and conduct presentations for
statewide agencies and organizations, schools and | unions. Volunteering means working flexible hours whieh ean be modeled after your own schedule. Any time that ean be devoted is mueh needed to further voter education and awareness. Help and assistance I is needed in the following areas: ' coordinating special events, genealoey and verification, voter
hotline and information services, among others. Non-paid intemships are also available for career development in the following areas: Accounting, Education, Research and Marketing.
