Education This month's 'Aha 'Ōpio brings together 60 high school students to leam leadership skills by participating in a moek legislature. The public is invited to attend the opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 19 in St. Andrew's Cathedral, and the closing at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 23. A new program, Ka Hā Naupaka is involving 12 couples on a "journey to explore their roles as cultural transmitters," says Rona Rodenhurst, education officer. Twelve kupuna couples will explore their own resources, share eommon ideas, talk about childrearing, and discuss how they've been able to maintain their marriages - and their Hawaiian identity. The program was initiated by Betty K. Jenkins, kupuna team alaka'i, out of a desire to create statewide cadres of kūpuna and a realization that stabilizing and

strengthening family life is required to allow family members to excel in their educational pursuits. It's hoped that the program will in the future develop into a mentoring program.
