Rocky Jensen is calling for portfolios in a search for 12 artists to heeome his apprentices in the art of Hawaiian sculpting while helping to carve the Akua-ka-lepa. Apprentices will be required to dedicate at least two days a week to the project, learning art history, ritual, symbolism, and philosophy relating to the concept of ki'i. The ki'i will be carved at
Maluhia. the army's recreation center and former USO theatre located on Kalākaua Avenue at the edge of Fort DeRussy in Waikīkī. Jensen is looking for native Hawaiians, age 18 or older, who are trained in art or have art expertise.
