Ke Kukui Mālamalama nominations due Sept. 26

Sept. 26 is the deadline to submit nominations for the 1994 Ke Kukui Mālamalama awards. OHA's <tnnual recognition of outstanding individuals or groups in Hawaiian eduation. For nomination packets or more information eall the OHA education division at 594-191 1. The awards honor exemplary work in academic and cultural education in the Hawaiian community. Nominees ean be educators. administrators, community individuals or groups, and businesses or businesspersons. OHA seeks those who

have exceiled in education leadership, eunieulum development, education innovation, sensitivity to Hawaiians, and encouragement of Hawaiians in education. Nominees do not have to be of Hawaiian ancestry. All the nominees will be recognized during ;tn awards reception Dec. 7. To be eligible, nt>minees must be exceptionally dedicated to furthering the education of native Hawaiians, must have inspired students of Hawaiian ancestry to excellence, have the respect and

admiration of students. parents and colleagues, and take an aclive, useful role in the community. "Some years I wish we cou!d give an award to everybody who is nominated," said OHA education officer Rona Rodenhurst. adding that the award "shows tliat there is this eonsistency of excellence for Hawaiian education." Last year's awardees were Elsie Kawao Durante, Elizabeth Nalani Mersberg Ellis, Edward Kaiponohea Hale, Rowena Keaka and David Kahalemauna Roy, Jr.
