Revolving loan fund specialists win SBA

awards

Three awards were handed out to individuals involved in the Native Hawaiian Revolving Loan Fund at the Small Business Administration awards luneheon held in Honolulu April 20. Kathleen Cook and Dennis Kondo were named Minority Small Business Advocates of the Year, and Allan Yee was named Account Advocate of the Year for the island of O'ahu. Both Cook and Kondo were noted for their work as consultants for OHA's loan fund program.

Cook has also worked with other minority groups, either one-on-one or in classrooms, and has helped start a variety of small businesses on her home island of Kaua'i. Kondo has also worked extensively with minorities and is an active member of the SBA's Women in Business Committee. Allan Yee is a member of the OHA's Revolving Loan Fund board. The review board has approved nearly 200 loans and loaned over $6 million dollars to native Hawaiian businesses since 1989.
