February is Hawaiian language monlh

Gov. Waihe'e has proe!aimed February Hawaiian Language Month. and several activities are planned to promote 'ōlelo Hawai'i throughout the month. Saturdav, Feb. 5 is "Lā Kūkahekahe" (Conversation Day) at Kamehameha Schools, where there are about 850 students in grades 7-12 studying Hawaiian. The day will inc)ude presentations, demonstrations, singing and a market. The event runs from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and will take plaee on the upper campus in the Ke'elikōlani Auditorium. The $10 admission includes a Hawaiian luneh; keiki under 10 and kūpuna are $5. Admission ean be had for $2 but does not include luneh. "Ho'omau '94," set for Feb. 12 at the Waikikl Shell, is a benefit for Hawaiian immersion programs on O'ahu. Entertainers include Ho'okena, Loyal Garner, Makaha Sons, Roddy Lopez and Friends, and more. "Lā 'Ohana" (family day) is set for Feb. 26 at Kapi'olani Park. Hawaiian music and dance, games, crafts, cultural demonstrations and other activities are planned from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Free.
