Nānākuli celebrates Prince Kūhiō with song

'Aha Haku Mele 'O Maunakea, Inc. is onee again accepting applications to its third annual Prince Kūhiō Song and Essay Contest to all that

live on Nanakuli Homestead. The purpose of this event is to perpetuate the legacy of Prince Kūhiō, namely the establishment of homestead lands. The theme this vear is "Ha'aheo O

Nānākuli" (Nānākuli is cherished with pride). The first event will be Feb. 20 at Orvis Auditorium, University of Hawai'i, Mānoa. The fundraiser will feature Nānākuli homestead talents, honor those pioneers who have lived on the home-

stead since it opened in 1929-30 and showcase those kūpuna (seniors) and mākua (adults and educators) that excel in the song and essay contest.

The second event will take plaee on March 5 in the Nānāikapono Elementary School cafeteria and features all haumana (students) from Nānākuli Homestead that enter the song or essay eon-

test. Prizes will be awarded to all winners. Tapes and rehearsals to learn the required song will be held on Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. at 89134 Haleakalā Ave. For more information eall the committee at 668-1965 or 668-2333.
