OHA trustee Aiona is honored by psychologists
The Daniel K. Inouye Award is given by the Hawai'i Psychological Association for the advancement of psychology in Hawai'i by a nonpsychologist. This year the award was presented to Abraham Aiona. His recordof service to the community
over the years has been phenomenal. In the last few years, he has taken an active stance in promoting issues of psychology, both in his own eommunity work as well as at the legislative level. Aiona has had a longstanding interest in psychology and its usefulness to Hawaiian affairs, particularly in the areas of education and mental health. As a trustee of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, as president of Maui Eeonomie Opportunity, and in his activities in other community organizations, Aiona is often at the legislature representing various issues. In that process, he has acted to keep the legislature abreast of psychological issues.
