Fishing kapu off Daimond Head in 1991

Like the konohiki fishing restrictions of old to protect the fishery resource, the Waikiki-Dia-mond Head shoreline fisheries management area will be closed to all fishing activities for one year, from Jan. 1, 1991 to Dec. 31, 1991. The fisheries management area encompasses the nearshore waters between the ewa wall of the Waikiki War Memorial Natatorium and the Diamond Head Lighthouse, and from the high-water mark on shore to a minimum seaward distance of 500 yards or the edge of the fringing reef if one occurs beyond 500 yards. management area is regulated under Department of Land and Natural Resources' Administrative Rules, Chapter 13-48. Any person violating the provisions of Chapter 13-48 shall be guilty of a petty misdemeanor and may be subject to a maximum penalty of $500 and/or 30 days in jail. The public's kokua in complying with the closure to all fishing will be mueh appreciated.
