Photos trace election history

The development of elections in Hawai'i, from the monarchy through statehood, is portrayed in a eolleehon of historic photographs at the new eleehon division headquarters, 802 Lehua Avenue, Pearl City, O'ahu. Admission is free. The public is weleome to view the exhibition during regular business hours at the division headquarters. The kings and queens of Hawai'i figure prominently in the exhibit. One featured item is a copy of

an 1847 ballot letter from the reign of King Kamehameha III. It is Hawaii's oldest known surviving eleehon document. The hotly contested royal eleehon of 1874 is covered with photographs of royal figures and documents of the period. Pictures also show the campaign styles of the territorial period and the role elections played in the movement for statehood.
