People interested in quitting smoking or who have already quit and want to know how to "stay quit," the University of Hawai'i Cancer Research Center's Cancer Information Service (CIS) operates a Smoker's Hot Line that ean help. By calling 524-1234 weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., people ean talk with a trained eounselor who ean provide advice and a free quit smoking information kit. Neighbor Island residentsmay eall collect. lncluded in the kit are several brochures with information on various quit smoking programs as well as suggestions on how to eope with symptoms smokers experience in quitting. One hint is to drink lots of water, whieh helps flush the nieohne from a smoker's body and also helps lessen the urge to snack. The CIS is also offering a new "Mahalo For Not Smoking" standup card for offices or individual desks.
