Spring Lecture Series Set On Hawaiian Culture

The continuing education series of free Hawaiian culture lectures continues this spring, offered by the Kamehameha Schools Extension Education Division. Here is the schedule for O'ahu and the neighbor islands:

February— U ahu (all O ahu lectures meet Thursday evenings) February 9 — " 'Ie'ie Weaving," by Pat Horimoto at 7-8:30 p.m., Kaumakapili Church, 766 N. King St., Kalihi-Palama. February 16 — "Parenting Hawaiian-Style," by Ke'ala Kwan, at 7-8:30 p.m., Wai'anae Recreation Center (smaller room), 85-471 Farrington Hwy., Wai'anae February 23 — "Hawaiian Women Composers," by Haunanai Apoliona, at 7:30-9 p.m., Benjamin Parker Elementary School cafetorium, 45-259 Waikalua Rd., Kane'ohe.

February — Neighbor Islands February 18— "Pi'ilani Ko'olau: Profile of Courage," by Frances Frazier (lecture will be entirely in Hawaiian), Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Kaua'i Community College dining room, Lihue. This event is sponsored in conjunction with La Ho'olu 'Olelo Hawai'i (Hawaiian Language Day), held 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at KCC. (See related story this issue). February 22 — "Canoebuilding," by Mike Adams, Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Maui Community College student lounqe.

March — O'ahu (lectures are all on Thursday evenings) March 16 — "Hawaiian Women composers," by Haunani Apoliona, 7-8:30 p.m. at Kaumakapili Church. March 23 — "Hawaiian History as seen through

the eyes of an Artist," by David Parker, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Wai'anae Recreation Center (smaller room). March 30 — Repeat of Parker's lecture from 7:30 -9 p.m., at Benjamin Parker Elementary School cafetorium. March — Neighbor Islands March 2 — "Lili'uokalani in Kona — A Kama'aina Perspective," by Hannah Springer, 7 p.m. Thursday, in the King Kamehameha Hotel. Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i.

March 17 — "The Mahele of 1848," by Dr. Lilikala Kame'eleihiwa, 7 p.m. Friday, in the Kaua'i Community College dining room, Lihue, Kaua'i. March 20 — "Hawaiian Petroglyphs," by Phil Kwiatkowski, 7 p.m. Monday, in the Mitchell Pau'ole Center, Moloka'i. March 22 — "Navigation," by Chad Babayan, 7 p.m. Wednesday, in the Maui Community College student lounge.
