Students loans deferred for Volunteer Service (The following excerpt is from the Summer 1988 issue of Voluntary Action Leadership, pg. 17). "Most college graduates are unaware that their student loans ean be deferred if they make at least a one year commitment to serving the community. The current requirements for loan deferral state that the person applying must: 1)Serve with a tax-exempt organization, 2) Provide service to low-ineome people and their communities, to assist them in eliminating poverty and poverty-related human, social and environmental conditions, 3) Not receive compensation in excess of what Peaee Corps or VISTA volunteers receive, 4) Not give religious instruction and proselytize or raise funds for any religion, and 5) Agree to serve at least one year." OHA has many interesting and rewarding opportunities to provide volunteer service that benefits the Hawaiian community. For information eall me at 946-2642 or 261-3285.
