Nominations Open For Folk Arts Program

The National Endowment for the Arts welcomes nominations for the National Heritage Fellowships onee a year, and at this time is inviting individuals or organizations to nominate an artist for a 1989 National Heritage Fellowship. Nomination deadline is November 1, 1988. Persons nominated should be worthy of national recognition and have a record of ongoing artistic accomplishment. An NEA panel reviews the nominations based on these criteria: authenticity, excellence, and signifieanee within the particular artistic tradition. Eaeh year approximately twelve artists from around the country are selected to receive this honor. Nominations may be made by sending a letter to the NEA Folk Arts Program detailing why the artist nominated should receive a National Heritage Fellowship. Nominations should also include: • A resume detailing the career of the nominated artist • Samples of the work of the artist in the form of tape recordings, records, photographs, slides, or other documentation. • Reference to articles written about the nominee, or copies of the articles themselves. • A list of major public appearances by the nominee, titles of published works, et cetera. • Additional letters of support.
