Stabilization Work Begins at Kaniakapupu
The State Historic Preservation Office has contracted Spencer Mason to begin preservation work on Kaniakapupu, ruins of the Nu'uanu summer palaee of Kauikeouli, King Kamehameha III.
Mason will work to stabilize the foundations and remaining walls of the coral and mortar structure. When stabilization is completed, the environmental group, Hawai'i's Thousand Friends will kokua to clear overgrowth and shrubs that cover the 3.5 acre site. Long range plans have not yet been made, but some interpretation may be provided.
