Kamehameha Celebrates Hoʻolauleʻa Event
Start of Second Century
Kamehameha Schools' annual Ho'olaule'a will be held Saturday, November 12 on the Schools' Elementary campus. The public is invited to this event whieh runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year's theme is "Ka Huliau 'Ana— The Turning Point," whieh refers to the start of Kamehameha's second century.
"For many of us at the Schools, this is a very exciting time," said assistant to the president Sherlyn Franklin, who is also a Ho'olaule'a coordinator. "We now have the largest student body ever at Kamehameha, our programs are growing all over the state, and we have a Hawaiian president to lead
us. This is 'ka huliau 'ana' for Kamehameha." As always, Ho'olaule'a will include non-stop Hawaiian entertainment, prepared loeal foods, fresh neighbor island produce, a dunking booth, silent auction, games and contests, originalT-shirt designs, baked goods, jams and jellies, and a wide variety of Hawaiian arts and crafts. Keiki, too, will
have plenty to do, as the tish pond, mini-golf and body painting booths that have become favorites return for another year. In all, more than 50 booths and displays will be set up for visitors to enjoy. Ho'olaule'a is the main fund-raising event for Kamehameha's Association of Teachers and Par-
ents (ATP). All proceeds go to fund studentenrichment activities, such as helping defray travel expenses for clubs and teams and establishing achievement awards for special programs. The admission schedule is as follows: students (5-17), $1.00, adults (18-64), $3.00, keiki under 5, free, and kupuna (65+), free.
Tickets may be purchased at the gate or in advance from Kamehameha students or through the ATP office (phone: 842-8623). Parking for Ho'olaule'a will be available in marked areas on and off campus. Buses will shuttle people to and from the parking areas throughout the day.
