Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs Sets Nov. 16-17 Con Con
Marathon meetings of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors, Association of Hawaiian Civic Ciubs, and the Constitutional Convention June 18 and July 10 have resulted in a definite schedule for the Con Con. Following a poll of the entire AOHCC Board of Directors, the following are now definite. □ The Con Con is now scheduled for Nov. 16 and 17 at the Kona Surf Hotei. This is the same weekend and location of the annual AOHCC convention. □ Resolutions for constitution and bylaws amendments must be submitted and in the committee's hands by Monday, Sept. 19, to meet the required 60-day deadline for submittal. □ Send resolutions for amendments to AOHCC President Jalna Keala, in care of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, 1600 Kapiolani Blvd., Suite 15(X), Honolulu, Hawai'i 96814. They will be time-stamped and forwarded to the Con Con committee. □ The committee will review and eompile the recommended amendments and distribute the amendment packets to the clubs by Oct. 17, meeting the required 30-day deadline
and giving the clubs time to review the material. All other resolutions, those not dealing with the constitution, should go to Tomi Downey Chong, Waialua HCC, chairperson of the resoluttons committee. She will be sending out her own notices to the clubs. In a memorandum to all clubs and District Councils, Mrs. Keala writes: "Please be patient with us as we break new ground in puttingthis Con Con together. Its a first for all of us, but another step in the process of learning through the Civic Clubs. "This Cortstitution belongs to eaeh and every member of this Association and serves as the guiding and working document for our business and activities. Take ownership of it and don't hesitate to submit amendments. "It is my fondest hope that what we learn within our own organization will be applied in the halls of government as we try and succeed — or make mistakes — first among ourselves. Some day, perhaps, a few of us will take some of what we leamed in our mini Con Con to a larger arena to serve the Hawaiian cause. It will make our current efforts very worthwhile."
