Volunteers in Action
By Solomon Look Director Volunteer and Internship Program New volunteers currently helping out at the Office of Hawaiian Affairs are: (1) Kuulei Mata who is organizing the files of Ka Wai Ola O OHA. (2) Lynne Ford, who is working at the Wang word-processor preparing materials for the Policy, Planning and Research Division. (3) Loretta DeVeaux is also helping with filing in the same division. (4) Lois Pualeilani and Mokihana Spillner are giving some of their time to the Land Division. (6) Trudy Yuki is doing some research whieh will help in applying for federal grants. There are also two student interns who are get ting credits towards graduation by working on OHA projects. They are Tesha Malama, a senior in Political Science at the University of Hawaii Manoa, who is working in the Land Division with Linda Delaney, and Miehael Sawamoto, a last semester student in Kapiolani Community College's Paralegal program. Mike is doing research on the status of a master plan for several heiau on Kauai under the direction of Cultural Specialist Earl (Buddy) Neller. There is a wide range of activities available to volunteers. Many have volunteered for specific project like Ho'olokahi or are continuing volunteers like David Makuakane, who has delivered the OHA newspaper to different locations on Oahu for the past three months. Other volunteers are in a pool and ean be called on when a specific need arises.
