Ieʻie Usage Marks Honaunau Program

The usage of Ie'ie was demonstrated and described in a program presented Nov. 4 by Pat Horimoto who has done extensive research on the art work of the subject matter. An appreciative audience attended the evening program at the Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park's Amphitheater. It was co-sponsored by the Hawaii Natural History Association and the Department of the Interior's National Park Service.

This was one of a series of programs held during the year to provide information to the public on Hawaiian studies; celebrating Ho'olako 1987 as the Year of the Hawaiian; the United States' Constitution's 200th anniversary; and the President's "Take Pride in America" program. Horimoto, sales representative for Aloha Airlines, had returned recently from New Zealand where he participated in an arts and crafts exposition. Information on this and other programs at Pu'uhonua o Honaunau may be obtained by telephoning these Hawaii numbers, 328-2288 or 328-2326. Kumu Hula Lisa Roy and her halau, E Ho'ohawaii Nei Kakou, were on the next scheduled program, Dec. 2, sharing the art of ancient hula.
