Keiki Tahiti Fete Scheduled Mar. 14
The second annual Keiki Tahiti Fete, a keiki Tahitian competition featuring Ote'a dances, will be held Saturday, Mar. 14, at 10 a.m. in McCabe gym on the St. Louis School campus. Co-sponsored by the Kalihi-Palama Culture and Arts Society and St . Louis' Hui O Na Opio under Kumu Hula John Lake, the competition will be in both solo and group categories for tane (male) and vahine (female). Trophies and other awards will be given winning groups and individuals. There is a suggested $4 donation for admission. Wendell P.K. Silva is the program coordinator. Among early entries are Keolalaulani Halau Olapa O Laka of Kaneohe under Kumu Hula Aloha Delire. This is the same halau whieh grabbed auwana and overall honors for women in the 1986 Merrie Monarch Festival in Hilo. Other entries received so far are Atooi Marama from Kauai (Kapu Kinimaka Alquiza); and Aloha Pumehana O Polynesia from Waipahu (Denise Kia Ramento). At least five more groups were scheduled to submit entry forms.
