Former Warrior Signs with Denver

Former Kamehameha nose guard John Haina, who went on to star with the University of Califomia Golden Bears at Berkeley, has signed to play professional football with the Denver Broncos of the National Football League. Son of Jack and Jeri Haina of Makakilo, young Haina was outstanding on the Warriors' defensive unit and was named to the Honolulu Advertiser Interscholastic League of Honolulu first team. At Berkeley, he played nose guard in his junior year and was linebacker and defensive captain in his senior year. He received awards for most improved player on defense, most valuable player on defense and Chevrolet Player of the Game when Cal played UCLA last season. Haina recently returned to the Berkeley campus to resume his studies after attending the Broncos' mini eamp. Haina, who signed on as a free agent, is expected to graduate this summer. His mother is a reservationist with Inter Island Resorts and his father is with the City and'County of Honolulu Fire Department at the Waianae station. A younger brother attends St. Louis High School.
