            "Ua makemake au, e lawe pololei oe ia'u no kahi o kela wahine au i lawe aku ai, he aneane e piha he hookahi hora ae nei i hala.  O ko'u hoa ia o ke kau ana mai nei maluna o ke kaaahi, a mamuli o ko'u hele ana aku nei he wahi okoa, ua poina ia'u ka helu o ke alanui, o ka hale i ku ai, e pololei ai ka'u hele ana aku."

            "O Alika maoli no anei ka mea nana i kuai i ka laaumake, no ke ake e lawe ae i kona ola, i hoopokoleia ai na la o kona noho ehaeha ana?" o keia ka ninau i ulu ae iloko o Elioka i kela manawa, me kona manaoio ole no nae, e hoao ana o Alika e lawelawe i kela hana.
